HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Steelton woman was arrested after city police said she was DUI when she struck a mother and her 12-year-old child.
Christal Townsend, 33, went into an oncoming lane of traffic and struck the pedestrians from behind Saturday night around 9 p.m. as they walked in the 1800 block of Walnut Street, police said.
Police said the mother and child were walking on the roadway because there is no sidewalk along the south side of Walnut Street.
The child received severe head and facial trauma and was not able to feel anything below his neck, police said in a news release Monday. The mother suffered minor head trauma and was complaining of pain to her body.
Both were transported to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment.
