LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) – A trial is underway for a Pennsylvania man accused of beating and strangling his college freshman girlfriend in her dormitory.

Pennlive.com says (http://bit.ly/1QstqNz ) Gregorio Orrostieta’s defense attorney told jurors his client didn’t mean to kill Millersville University student Karlie Hall during a drunken argument in February 2015.

During opening statements Thursday, attorney Peter Bowers said 18-year-old Hall attacked Orrostieta after he spilled ramen on her. He also says a previous head injury from a drunken accident might have contributed to her death.

Lancaster County Assistant District Attorney Susan Ellison described Orrostieta as possessive and jealous. She says evidence will show he killed her.

Ellison says Orrostieta cursed at and shoved Hall at a party earlier that night.

Police say Orrostieta told them he shoved Hall, causing her to fall and hit her head.
