DAUPHIN, Pa. (WHTM) – Officials said a train passing near Route 22/322 sparked a two-mile brush fire Saturday afternoon.
Fire officials said they call came in at 12:53 p.m. for a fire near Mountain Road. Officials said fire crews from Dauphin and Perry counties responded and for two hours battled the blaze which stretched for two miles toward Halifax.
Authorities believed a Norfolk Southern train may have been sparking for an unknown reason and caused nearby brush to catch on fire. The fire official said the breezy conditions helped spread the flames. Crews were on hand for nearly three hours to control hot spots.
No injuries were reported and the train tracks were said to reopen around 5:00 pm.
