LANDISVILLE, Pa. (WHTM) – A 17-year-old junior at Hempfield High School has been cited with disorderly conduct for an incident last week that prompted a lockdown and police search.
East Hempfield Township police said the teen referenced a shooting on social media, and another student who received the message spoke to others about the possibility of a shooting.
When school administrators learned of the message, the building was locked down while officers investigated the threat and searched for weapons. Police said at no time were any students or staff in danger, and it was ultimately determined that no real threat existed.
The student was identified and during questioning told authorities the message was a joke, and he believed everyone knew it was a joke.
Police said the teen was cited because the comments created unrest in the school and community and required precautionary measures.
