LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – Mayor Rick Gray is no stranger to walking.
“Over 40 years, going on 45 years, I’ve walked to work,” Gray told ABC27 News.
Gray said he had mixed emotions this week when Lancaster landed fourth on a national list of best cities to walk to work.
Livability, which ranked each city, said Lancaster can be walked in less than 40 minutes with plenty of shops, restaurants, and galleries.
Gray said Lancaster has taken steps to be more walkable. He said just last year the city got the results of a study which gave suggestions to do just that.
He said they keep the study in mind when working on projects like the Central Market improvement.
“This isn’t for cars,” he said. “This plaza, we close it during market days. We do it make it more friendly to pedestrians and younger people.”
Gray said he believes Lancaster deserves to be number one on the list.
