Trainee suffers minor injuries after helicopter crashes in Lebanon County

MYERSTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – A helicopter crash at the Deck Airport in Jackson Township left one person with a minor injury.

helicopter_crashState police said the Bell 47 helicopter crashed Wednesday morning while a trainee and his instructor were performing a maneuver and had to go in for a hard landing.

The trainee had a minor cut on his arm and the woman teaching him was not injured.

A witness told ABC27 News they saw the helicopter flying around for about an hour before the crash.

Melissa Strickler, who lives a few hundred feet from the rural airport, did not see the crash, but she was surprised to hear both people walked away from the mangled mess.

“It just seems that there are so many things that could wrong,” she said. “It just has to be a miracle, I would think.”

A Federal Aviation Administration representative said the helicopter was based in Lancaster County and commonly used for training.

It could take months for the FAA to complete its investigation.

The crash was the second at the Lebanon County airport in the past few months. In December, a single-engine plane crash sent four people to the hospital.
