York man pleads guilty in videotaped dog-beating case

Luis J. Cruz-Padro, Jr. pled guilty to charges of animal cruelty.

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A man who was videotaped as he dragged, punched, and whipped a dog has pleaded guilty to animal cruelty.

Luis J. Cruz-Padro, 28, entered the non-negotiated plea to the first-degree misdemeanor count Tuesday in York County Court, according to court records.

Sentencing is scheduled on May 31.

0000031Authorities alleged that Cruz-Padro last year tied a white pit bull to a post to stop it from getting away, then punched the dog several times and whipped it with what appeared to be a belt.

A neighbor videotaped the abuse and posted a two-and-a-half-minute video to Facebook.

Authorities said Cruz-Padro was not the dog’s legal owner.
