Suspicious delivery closes gate at New Cumberland defense depot

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (WHTM) – The commercial truck gate at the Defense Distribution Center Susquehanna was closed for about three hours Tuesday morning while FBI and state police bomb squads investigated a suspicious delivery.

Defense Logistics Agency police detected possible explosive precursors on a tractor-trailer delivery around 6:40 a.m., spokeswoman Dawn Bonsell said in a statement. Explosive precursors are chemicals that can be easily made into an explosive.

The gate was reopened at 9:30 a.m. and the installation was given the “all-clear” at 11 a.m. when investigators determined the semi-truck was not a threat, Bonsell said.
