York teen headed to trial for attempted homicide

Hydiea Banks

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A 16-year-old girl accused of shooting a man in the head is headed to trial for attempted homicide.

Hydiea Banks waived a preliminary hearing Tuesday before Magisterial District Judge Linda Williams, according to court records.

Banks is charged as an adult in the Jan. 9 shooting of 18-year-old Shyhiem McDowell in the 300 block of Girard Avenue.

By waiving the hearing, she did not admit guilt but conceded prosecutors have enough evidence to put her on trial.

A formal arraignment is scheduled May 13.

Banks remains in York County Prison with bail set at $500,000 cash.
