HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – The 2016 season for the Harrisburg Senators begins Thursday. Expectations are high in the team’s 30th season, and so are the goals each player is setting.
“I want to come out of the gate strong,” says Lucas Giolito, the Nationals top prospect, and number 1 overall minor league pitching prospect, “and make sure I do everything I need to do to be successful. For however long my time is here, just continue to develop.”
He says for however long because it is likely Giolito will end up with Nationals by season’s end. During Spring Training, he spent much of his time learning from Max Scherzer and Gio Gonzalez. He hopes building equity and gaining advice with the major league starters will pay off and allow him to exceed his already high expectations.
“I see the prospect rankings, and all the stuff they’ve been talking about for the past few years. It’s all cool stuff.”
The Senators season begins Thursday in Altoona, and the team’s home opener is April 14th.
