LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A city man is accused of selling marijuana from a daycare center operated by his wife.
Craig L. Johnson, 43, was charged with felony drug dealing after authorities raided Gymboree Family Childcare at 407 South West End Avenue, according to the Lancaster County district attorney’s office.
Lancaster County Drug Task Force detectives said they seized 87 grams of marijuana – with an estimated street value of $1,000 – as well as paraphernalia and a thousand dollars in cash.
ABC 27 News spoke with a woman who is familiar with daycare, but who wanted to remain anonymous. “We would just notice a lot of traffic,” she said. “A lot of people coming in and out without children.”
Johnson was released on $50,000 unsecured bail.
Investigators don’t believe any children were harmed by his alleged crimes.
“You had a drug dealer literally right upstairs at the daycare,” said Bret Hambright, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office. “It’s very possible they could have seen something. We don’t believe the dealing happened right in front of them, but who knows if they saw someone coming and going?”
Johnson’s wife hasn’t been charged.
Hambright said the district attorney’s office is looking into Johnson’s clientele to see if there was any involvement with parents of children at the daycare.
Lancaster’s Department of Health and Human Services is investigating the daycare.
