Silver Spring police officer involved in crash

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Silver Spring Township police officer was treated at a hospital and released after he was in a three-vehicle crash while responding to an emergency Tuesday morning.

The police department identified the officer as Matthew Haflett.

Police said his patrol SUV was struck on the driver’s side door by a vehicle crossing the intersection of Route 114 and Sporting Green Drive, near the Silver Spring Commons shopping center, at 8:30 a.m. His SUV then struck a third vehicle with its front end.

Harrisburg Hospital staff checked Haflett’s hip, shoulder and neck before releasing him. Another driver was treated at Holy Spirit Hospital and the third refused medical attention for small cuts on his hand, police said.

State police are investigating the crash.

Hafflet has been with Silver Spring police for more than three years. He was previously employed by the Harrisburg Police Department.
