WASHINGTON (WHTM) – Liberty Hardware is recalling decorative metal wall plates sold at Lowe’s and other home improvement stores.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the switch and outlet covers can dislodge from a backplate and short circuit the outlet, posing a risk of electrical shock or fire.

The company has received two reports of short circuits when the plate dislodged and touched an energized, partially released plug. No injuries have been reported.

The recalled covers fit a variety of switch and outlet designs and have two plates; a backplate that screws into the wall like a traditional plate and a decorative metallic cover that snaps over the backplate with spring clips.

Consumers should immediately remove the recalled wall plates and contact Liberty Hardware for a full refund.
