Author Spotlight: Dr. Kyle Kopko and Dr. Christopher Devine

Kyle Kopko and Chris Devine were in to discuss their book, “The VP Advantage: How Running Mates Influence Home State Voting in Presidential Elections.”

“We began this line of research after hearing political pundits in the 2008 presidential election discuss the influence of running mates, particularly their ability to deliver a key state in the Electoral College.  We began to wonder if there was any evidence for the claims that pundits were making, and so we decided to do our own empirical analysis to see if they were correct,” explains Kopko.

“Typically they are not influenced.  While we like to speculate about the influence of running mates, and who a presidential candidate will select as a running mate, the vast majority of voters make their decision based upon the presidential candidate.”

There will be a book signing at the Bowers Writer’s House on March 9 at 7 pm at Elizabethtown College.
