Officials get Oak Lawn cemetery records, burials to continue

GETTYSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Cumberland Township police have taken possession of Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens records for their ongoing investigation of complaints against the cemetery.

Authorities on Monday said the records will be kept at the police department “pending resolution of administrative and possible criminal charges.”

Funeral directors may access burial records by appointment at the police department.

Family members have complained about piles of dirt, tire tracks over grave sites, and broken markers since the cemetery was sold at a tax sale earlier this year, and some worried the plots they purchased might not be honored.

Authorities say burial plot owners retain the right to bury deceased loved ones through their funeral director. They said they’ve already been contacted by two funeral directors who plan to hold burials in the next week.
