PennDOT crews began working 12-hour shifts Monday morning to treat roadways. More than 300 plows work on District 8 roadways until further notice.
The plows will treat the roads with salt or a mixture during the overnight efforts.
Greg Penny is a spokesperson with PennDOT. He says that each plow is responsible for about 40 miles of roadway. “We hear people say that the trucks have not been here yet.” said Penny, “They may have already been through, but if not, they will make it, but they have a lot of road to cover.”
On Monday, PennDOT lowered the speed limit to 45 mph on highways.
For those who had to drive, it was a little tricky Monday night. “You could feel the car sliding,” said John Allen, “You take your time, and be aware of other drivers.”
