Harrisburg City Council taking public comment on decriminalization of marijuana

Thursday night Harrisburg City Council is taking public comment on a proposal to decriminalize marijuana in Harrisburg.

On Monday, Harrisburg Mayor Eric Papenfuse announced his proposal for a “three strikes program” in the city. It would fine marijuana users instead of charging them with a misdemeanor on the first offense.

Marijuana has been a hot topic nationwide and many Midstaters weighed in on the topic, supporting the mayor’s plan.

In a poll on abc27.com, 90% of those who voted said marijuana should be decriminalized in Harrisburg. More than 2,000 people participated in the online poll.

Tonight’s city council meeting starts at 6 p.m.
