DENVER, Pa. (WHTM) – Authorities say a Luzerne County man cashed thousands of dollars in checks he stole from inside a Denver home.

Brian A. Rowlands, 42, confessed to gaining access to the checks through a connection he had with a pet-sitter.

The checks belonged to the Lebanon-based Pa. Morgan Horse Club, a Lebanon-based.

Rowlands cashed a total of $4,000 worth at Wilkes-Barre bank, according to the Lancaster County district attorney’s office.

Rowlands also told police that he wrote himself a check worth $500 and made nearly $2,600 in electronic payments to cover a cell phone debt.

Rowlands was committed to Lancaster County Prison on multiple felony charges, including forgery and theft.

No bail was set for Rowlands after police discovered he had an outstanding warrant regarding theft and a state parole detainer.

Police say the pet-sitter was not aware and will not be charged.
