Police in York County are warning residents about a phone scam involving the Publisher’s Clearing House name.
A Dover Township woman said she spoke to a male caller who claimed to work with the marketing company. He told her she won cash and a new car but would have to send two Western Union money grams to cover the cost of taxes and vehicle registration.
The woman sent over $1,300 but then became suspicious when the caller asked for an additional $2,000. That’s when she called Publisher’s Clearing House directly and was informed that she was not a winner.
Police ask that anyone who receives these type of calls to report it before sending any money. The odds of recovering money sent are low.
