Lancaster man sentenced to life in prison for murder of Lancaster teacher

LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – A Lancaster man will serve a life sentence for the murder of a Lancaster elementary teacher.

Thomas G. Moore, 26, plead guilty to first-degree murder and other related charges in the death of 38-year-old Nicole Mathewson.

Moore and Rutter, who at the time was 16, were charged with criminal homicide.

Mathewson was found dead inside her home after authorities said Moore and Rutter brutally beat her during a burglary.

Mathewson was a teacher at Brownstown Elementary School.

Moore commented in court at Judge David Ashworth’s request.

“I just want to apologize for everything everybody’s been through,” said Moore. “I appreciate the forgiveness. That’s it.”

Moore will serve 20 years in addition to his life sentence. He has also been ordered to pay $38,566 in restitution fines.

Rutter will be prosecuted as an adult. His case is still pending.
