With recent outbreaks at restaurants nationwide food safety has been in the news a lot. Reducing these foodborne illnesses by 10% would keep five million Americans from getting sick each year. For First Aid Friday, Nathan Harig with Cumberland Goodwill EMS shared what you can do to keep yourself and others safe.
Harig’s presented tips from FoodSafety.gov:
- Don’t “taste” food to see if it’s still good
- Avoid thawing food on the counter or reusing an unwashed plate
- Don’t let food stay out and cool before properly storing it
- Make sure to cook food to an internal temperature of 160 degrees
- Always wash your hands
