UPDATE: Turnpike section to close Thursday to remove tractor-trailer

UPDATE:

The closure has been delayed until THURSDAY at 9 a.m. Turnpike officials said this is to give workers more time to prepare for the removal of the tractor trailer, so that they can reopen the roadway as quickly as possible.\

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED:

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Part of a section of the Pennsylvania Turnpike that was closed over the weekend due to a massive backup of hundreds of vehicles will be closing again for several hours to allow recovery of one of the tractor-trailers involved.

Turnpike officials say an 86-mile stretch of the westbound lanes of the turnpike between the Breezewood and New Stanton interchanges will be closed for about three hours beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials said the closure is needed to recover a tractor-trailer that is over an embankment near mile post 156 in Bedford County. The accident happened over the weekend.

The same section of the turnpike was closed over the weekend to allow crews from three locations to aid in efforts to help those stuck for hours on the roadway.
