12 displaced after house fire in York County

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – The Red Cross is assisting two adults and 10 children displaced after a house fire Wednesday in Conewago Township.

Crews responded around 1:22 p.m. to the home on the 5700 block of Susquehanna Trial Road.

Chief Frosty Wertz with the Strinestown Fire Company said no one was home when the fire started on the second floor. He said a man knocked on the door of the fire house to tell them about the fire just up the road.

“I had heavy smoke through the street, through the house, no visible fire. I ran around, did a 360 of the house, still heavy smoke, and at that time, as the engine was pulling up, fire broke out the second floor on the front and side of the house,” Wertz said.

Six cats were killed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A fund has been set up to raise money for the family.
