Volunteers gather to help fight hunger in York

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – The York County Food Alliance and key partners Healthy World Cafe and Farm to Freezer hosted the fourth annual Squash Hunger event on Sunday.

Squash Hunger was launched in 2013 by The Greenhouse, a grassroots organization that works hand-in-hand with farmers across Pennsylvania to recover, preserve and share.

The event brings together volunteers to prepare, cook and freeze a bounty of squash soup to be donated to a host of area groups working to end hunger.

The following farmers and organizations set aside their excess produce to be transformed into a delicious and nutritious soup for those in need: Siwik Produce Farm, Brown’s Orchard and Farm Market, Miller Plant Farm and Ettline.

The soup will be donated to groups working to end hunger in the area, including Catholic Harvest Food Pantry, Healthy World Café, Nutrition Links Program / PSCE, Our Daily Bread, Pinkey’s Vineyard, Haven Home, York Rescue Mission, Hanover Council of Churches and the York County Food Bank.
