HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A state appeals court says a prison sentence of up to 80 years is not excessive for a former Lancaster County coach and church official convicted of child sexual abuse.
Superior Court on Tuesday denied the appeal of 25-year-old Jonathan D. Masteller.
Masteller was a substitute teacher and head coach of the junior high boys’ basketball team at Pequea Valley School District, and he was the director of youth programs at Gap Community Church.
In 2013, a church pastor found photos on Masteller’s work computer of Masteller and a young boy engaged in sex acts. Authorities said the abuse began when the boy was 12 years old.
Masteller pleaded guilty in 2014 to 12 counts of sexual abuse. He was sentenced to 25½ to 80 years in prison.
