Man gets up to 49 years for killing ex-girlfriend in Manchester Township

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – A York County man will spend up to 49 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend in her Manchester Township home more than three years ago.

Ross W. Crawford, 45, was sentenced to 24½ to 49 years Monday after he pleaded guilty to third-degree murder, stalking and obstruction in the June 2012 death of 53-year-old Cherylann Dowell, according to court records.

Crawford was scheduled to go on trial on a first-degree murder charge.

Police said a friend went to Dowell’s home in the 500 block of Cedar Village Drive after she didn’t show up to work for several days. She found the body wrapped in a sheet in the master bathroom, and she told police that Crawford emerged from the master bedroom covered in blood and told her to leave.

Crawford was arrested after a three-hour standoff at the home.
