AG Kane asks court to reinstate law license over Eakin role

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Pennsylvania’s attorney general wants her law license reinstated, saying a Supreme Court justice shouldn’t have voted to suspend it.

Attorney General Kathleen Kane filed a petition Monday arguing Justice Michael Eakin participated in the suspension vote despite his participation in a scandal she’s helped expose.

The court issued the temporary, indefinite suspension in September, a month after Kane was charged with leaking secret grand jury information and lying about it.

Kane says Eakin’s role in her suspension gives an appearance of impropriety and raises questions about his impartiality.

Kane, a Democrat, faces a hearing Tuesday as the Senate considers whether to remove her because she lacks a valid law license.

Three justices, all Democrats, were sworn in last week. Eakin awaits trial by a judicial ethics court over his role in exchanging pornographic and offensive emails.
