I-81 North reopens after ice-related accidents near I-78 split

JONESTOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – A 10-mile section of Interstate 81 northbound has reopened after several ice-related accidents near the Interstate 78 split.

The northbound lanes between mile marker 90 for Lebanon (Route 72) and mile marker 100 for Pine Grove (Route 443) reopened by 10:45 a.m.

State police closed the lanes shortly before 10 a.m. so that PennDOT trucks could treat the roadway. The interstate had been slickened by ice during freezing fog in the area this morning.

At least three cars slid off the highway. No injuries were reported.

I-81’s southbound lanes remained open.
