The Huntsdale Fish Hatchery is open for free tours, 7 days a week from 7:30am-3:30pm.
Larger groups are asked to call in advance, so they can be accommodated properly by friendly staff from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
The hatchery features approximately 1.3 million trout and other fish species, in various life stages, from egg to fully grown adult fish. The majority of the brown, brook and rainbow trout that are raised at the hatchery are stocked into Pennsylvania waterways for licensed anglers to catch during the fishing season. Others are sold to cooperative nurseries who raise the trout for private stocking and other uses.
There is an indoor visitors center, where visitors can learn about the history of the facility, and view some very large fish in a shallow pond.
Visitors are welcome to walk the outdoor grounds of the hatchery to view the fish, as well as feeding and other operations. Most visitors will have the opportunity to feed the fish a small amount of pellet food, which typically stirs the trout into a frenzy.
