1 in critical condition after apartment catches fire in Ephrata

EPHRATA, Pa. (WHTM) – Firefighters rescued an unconscious person trapped inside a burning apartment building Thursday night in Ephrata.

Crews were dispatched around 11:40 p.m. to the 600 block of East Main Street for a report of smoke coming from an apartment.

Ephrata police say the person found inside the residence was rushed to hospital with critical injuries, including burns and smoke inhalation.

The state police fire marshal assisted. Units from the Ephrata, Lincoln, and Akron fire companies were also helped extinguish the blaze.

Officials are ruling the cause of the fire as accidental.
