HARRISBURG, Pa. – State Supreme Court Justice Michael Eakin has been suspended with pay following an investigation into the exchange of emails containing sexual and racist content.
A three-judge panel of the Court of Judicial Discipline suspended Eakin on Tuesday, calling his emails insensitive and inappropriate regarding gender, race, sexual orientation and ethnicity.
At a hearing Monday, Eakin made an emotional plea in which he apologized for the emails.
A trial on the allegations could occur within months. If the court rules against him, he faces a range of possible punishment, up to permanent removal from the bench.
