STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WHTM) – Christian Hackenberg is taking the first step toward the NFL.

No, this doesn’t mean he’s leaving just yet.

Hackenberg, along with Austin Johnson, have filed for information and evaluations from the NFL. It’s a common move for underclassmen considering declaring for the NFL draft. With the TaxSlayer Bowl on the horizon, Hackenberg’s passion for the game, and loyalty to Penn State, create a bevvy of options for him to weigh.

“You know I just really love the game. I love the intricacies of it. I love learning. I love being able to go out and play it. At least for me I think it’s just caring for the game a lot. Taking pride in your preparation.”

As far as James Franklin’s interests are concerned, he above all else wants the right decisions to be made, and carried out at the right time.

“What we basically decided more than anything is just like everything else at Penn State we want to have a plan and be organized in whatever we decide. It’s not going to just be someone throwing something out in a tweet. It’s going to be something that we try and do together.”
