Dog shown in graphic abuse video shows he’s full of love

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – ABC 27 News found out firsthand that a dog shown in a graphic abuse video is still full of love.

In his first public appearance Bugs gave ABC 27’s Andrew Forgotch a face wash.

Early this week, video appeared online of a man beating the white, male Pit bull. The video showed the man punching Bugs, dragging him around, and hitting him with what appeared to be a belt.

As a result of the beating, Bugs suffered a broken rib and bruising. He is now in the care of the York County SPCA.

24-year-old Luis Cruz-Padro faces charges for the attack.

Melissa Smith, the Executive Director of the York County SPCA, said Bugs still shows some signs of fear. She said she was surprised at the reaction Bugs had with ABC 27’s Andrew Forgotch.

“He’s amazing,” Smith said in reference to Bugs. “It’s what all dog lovers love about dogs forgiveness, resilience, loyalty, and all things good.”

Smith told ABC 27 News that Bugs will spend a couple more days at the shelter before going to a foster home. She also said another dog that was turned over to the York County SPCA, as a result of the investigation, was also doing fine.

Police were still searching for Cruz-Padro on Thursday.
