Pa. House passes bill with penalties for false caller-ID

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Legislation that would make it a crime to use false caller ID information has passed the state House.

House Bill 391 would impose penalties when a false ID is used to harass or defraud the call recipient.

The penalty for a first offense would be a $2,500 fine and up to one year in prison. Repeat offenders would face a $5,000 fine and up to two years in prison.

The bill is headed to the Senate for consideration.
