HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – State. Rep. Sue Helm says she is winning her fight against breast cancer.
Helm told ABC 27 News she is cancer-free.
Even though she lost her hair and strength during chemotherapy, she continues to battle with a smile on her face.
“It’s very important to have a positive attitude,” Helm’s surgeon, Dr. Angela Soto-Hamelin said. “That’s actually been shown in research, that your attitude has a lot to do with your outcome and even prayer has a lot to do with the outcome. She bears all of her inconveniences and discomforts with a smile on her face.”
When caught very early, the survival rate is 98.6 percent. Helm reminds other women to get a yearly check-up, and a mammogram if they’re old enough, especially if they have dense breasts.
