LANCASTER, Pa. (WHTM) – Police have charged a Chester County man with criminal homicide in the death of former McCaskey basketball star Anthony C. Hunter Jr.

Andre Maurice Shelton Jr., 27, of Coatesville, was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Nancy Hamill. He is being held in Lancaster County Prison without bail.

Hunter was pronounced dead Saturday at Lancaster General Hospital; not long after his body was found at Lancaster Green Apartments in Lancaster Township.

According to the Lancaster County coroner, Hunter died of traumatic brain injuries.

Investigators recovered Hunter’s cell phone and found texts sent to Shelton, agreeing to meet at the apartment complex. A witness told police he observed a fight between the two men in a vestibule of the apartment building.

Records from Brandywine Hospital revealed that Shelton was at the emergency room Saturday night for treatment of injuries to his face and hands. Shelton told medics he had been in a fight that day.

Police ran a check of all vehicles registered to Shelton, and found he owned a black Chevy pickup truck. The same vehicle model a witness saw Shelton driving away from the apartment complex.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call Manheim Township police at 717-569-6401 or the department’s anonymous crime tip line at 717-569-2816.
