Warmer weather delays ski season

LEWISBERRY, Pa. (WHTM) – Roundtop Mountain Resort in York County is not worried about the warmer temperatures just yet.

For the past two years, the ski resort opened around Thanksgiving. This year, the mild temperatures have prevented that from happening.

An opening date has not been set.

“We’re still sort of in the average mode for this year, but of course we’ll take the cold weather as soon as we can get it,” marketing director Chris Dudding said.

Twenties at night and thirties during the day are the temperatures needed to make snow, but the recent forecast predicts temperatures in the 60s this weekend.

“We know we can bounce back pretty quickly,” Dudding said. “Now, if it were three days before Christmas, we’d probably be a little worried, but right now we know as soon as we get the weather, we can make it happen. It’s not a crisis yet.”

The ski resort’s prime season starts Christmas week and runs through the President’s Day weekend.
