Feds: Doctor’s assistant, husband illegally obtained prescription drugs

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A former office manager for a York doctor is accused of using her job to illegally obtain prescription painkillers for her husband, herself and others.

Amy and Joseph Schneider, both 29, are charged with conspiracy and distribution of Oxycodone. Amy Schneider is also charged with illegally using a Drug Enforcement Agency registration to obtain a controlled substance, and Joseph Schneider is charged with acquiring a prescription by fraud or forgery.

U.S. Attorney Peter Smith said Amy Schneider was permitted to use pre-signed forms to write prescription refills for patients. Between January 2014 and May 2015, she allegedly wrote Oxycodone prescriptions for her husband, who had them filled at pharmacies.

Smith said prosecutors filed a plea agreement that recommends the Schneiders should be held responsible for between 10,000 and 20,000 Oxycodone tablets. The plea agreement must be approved by a judge.
