Cumberland Valley claims AAAA title in 7OT thriller

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – Central Dauphin and Cumberland Valley have had many dramatic games, but few will ever compare to Saturday’s District 3 AAAA Championship game.

In a 7 overtime 3 hour championship game, Cumberland Valley defeated Central Dauphin 62-61.

Tied at 13 going into overtime, the Rams and Eagles would exchange 13 consecutive touchdown drives through 7 extra periods. After the 14th touchdown scored by Central Dauphin, Glen McNamee and the Rams opted to go for a game winning two point conversion, stopped by Cumberland Valley, giving them the District Title, and their second win of the year over Central Dauphin.

The game sets a new District 3 record for most points scored in a playoff game, and is the first district title for Cumberland Valley since 2010.

Cumberland Valley advances in the PIAA state playoffs, playing Central Catholic next Saturday.
