Pa. House gets bill to legalize medical marijuana

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A bill to legalize medical marijuana in Pennsylvania is headed to the state House floor, its last hurdle in the Legislature.

The House Rules Committee reported out Senate Bill 3 on Wednesday.

The bill would allow doctors to prescribe medical marijuana for medical conditions including cancer, epilepsy and seizures, ALS, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, post-traumatic stress disorder, HIV/AIDS, chronic pain, diabetes and glaucoma.

Patients with a prescription could obtain medical marijuana in oils, pills and gels, ointments and tinctures. Edible products couldn’t be sold and smoking marijuana wouldn’t be allowed.

The proposal passed the Senate six months ago. Governor Tom Wolf has said he’ll sign it if it reaches his desk.
