WASHINGTON (WHTM) – A New Jersey company is recalling portable battery packs that are used to charge smartphones, tablets, and other USB-powered devices because they can overheat and catch fire.
PNY Technologies has received one report of a battery venting flames, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. No injuries have been reported.
The batteries with model number T10400 are black or gray with two USB outputs and four blue LED lights. PNY is printed along the bottom. They were sold at Best Buy, Office Depot, Office Max and other retail stores nationwide and online at amazon.com and frys.com from January 2014 through August 2015 for about $50.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled batteries and contact PNY for a free replacement rechargeable battery.
