CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – Three people died in a two-car crash that closed the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 for about six hours Monday morning.
State police said the crash at mile marker 12 occurred around 5:17 a.m. when a southbound Nissan Sentra struck a deer and became disabled in a travel lane.
A 31-year-old Chambersburg man driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer did not see the Nissan and crashed into it. The car was pushed into the median where it caught fire.
Everyone in the car was killed, police said.
The driver of the Chevy was taken to Chambersburg Hospital by ambulance for treatment of moderate injuries, police said.
The southbound lanes were closed between the Wayne Avenue and Marion exits. The interstate reopened before noon.
