Fire forces York families from homes

YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – Several people were forced out of their homes by a fire early Monday in the 600 block of Dallas Street.

The fire affected six row homes. Three homes sustained smoke and water damage.

According to witnesses, one person was trapped on the third floor but was rescued by firefighters. No injuries have been reported.

Neighbors told us they were awakened around 5:45 a.m. as several people banged on their doors and shouted “fire.”

Officials said the fire started on the third floor and was caused by discarded smoking materials.

The Red Cross said it is assisting 14 people.
