HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) – Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane says a special Senate committee looking into her removal has no authority to obtain documents from her office and the only way she can be removed is by impeachment.

The committee unsuccessfully sought to serve a subpoena Friday after Kane refused to turn over documents the committee requested a week ago. Her spokesman says no one in the executive office was authorized to accept a subpoena on her behalf.

Kane says the state constitution only allows her removal through an impeachment process that starts in the state House.

The Senate panel is focusing on her ability to function as attorney general without a law license. The state Supreme Court suspended Kane’s law license in connection with criminal charges she’s fighting that she leaked confidential information.
