HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A new campaign launched this week hopes to encourage people near and far to visit the City of Harrisburg.
The city’s leader, however, is not exactly inspired.
“I would just ask, can you market the City of Harrisburg and not involve the City of Harrisburg,” said Mayor Eric Papenfuse.
Mayor Papenfuse made the comments last week in response to a new series of billboards intended to promote Harrisburg.
Thursday, the Hershey-Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau explained that the billboards were just a teaser and meant to intrigue people.
A full campaign has since launched with more specific billboards and a website, featuring the slogan “Find Your Way Here.”
While the visitors bureau says people have forgotten about Harrisburg, Mayor Papenfuse says what’s forgotten is the collaboration with the city.
By year’s end, the campaign will have cost. Those dollars are collected through the city’s hotel room tax.
