Midstate Memories: Dauphin County Historical Society speaks on Simon Cameron

Just who was Simon Cameron (1799-1889)? In fact there is a house named after him — several, in fact — an old school, and a street. Why was he so important, and where did he come from?

Before he lived in the Society’s mansion, Cameron had been U.S. Senator, Lincoln’s first Secretary of War, and Minister to Russia. The Mansion on Front Street in Harrisburg was one of his houses and is now a museum and home of the Historical Society of Dauphin County.

The Dauphin County Historical Society will host lecture on Simon Cameron by Rev. Robert Lescallette at the Harris-Cameron Mansion – Sunday, November 8 at 2:30 pm. For more information, call (717) 233-3452 or visit their website.
