HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A federal program that helps people pay their heating bills is accepting applications for assistance this winter.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) pays cash grants directly to utility companies and fuel providers for those who qualify.
Additional money may be available for those who have an emergency situation and are in jeopardy of losing their heat. Emergencies include heating systems in need of repair, lack of fuel, or a termination of a utility service.
The grants are based on household income; $17,655 for an individual homeowner or renter, $23,895 for a family of two, or $30,135 for a family of three. Recipients do not need to be on public assistance or have an unpaid heating bill.
