Midstate researchers using card game to start tough medical conversations

HERSHEY, Pa. (WHTM) – Conversations about ongoing medical and end-of-life care can be difficult to have, both for caregivers and those they care for.

Researchers at Penn State Hershey Medical Center are working to make it easier, using a game developed by a Philadelphia company.

The game, called My Gift of Grace, aims to get players thinking and talking about care decisions in less intrusive ways with conversation cards and tokens.

Developers have held community events in Philadelphia to test its effectiveness, and now medical center researchers are planning to do the same. Two events are scheduled around the Midstate in November.

We’ll show you how the game works and why researchers think it can help, tonight on ABC 27 News at 11.
