Student arrested after stabbing at James Buchanan High School

MERCERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A James Buchanan High School student was charged with attempted homicide after police said he stabbed a classmate with a knife.

Mercersburg police said the 14-year-old brought three knives to school and attacked the other boy Monday morning. He allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen and tried to slit his throat.

In addition to attempted homicide, the teen was charged with aggravated assault and three counts of possession of a weapon on school property. He is in the custody of the Franklin County Juvenile Probation Department.

In a statement on the Tuscarora School District’s Facebook page, administrators said the incident occurred during the homeroom period. They said a teacher stopped the attack.

The 14-year-old victim was treated at Chambersburg Hospital for a stab wound to his abdomen and released, police said.
