MIDDLETOWN, Pa. (WHTM) – A 15-year-old student is facing charges for posting an online threat that warned of a shooting at Middletown Area High School.

Lower Swatara Township police said the teen confessed to posting the threat on Twitter. The youth told investigators the threat was not serious and it was made because the teen wanted the day off from school.

The student was not permitted to attend school Monday, police said.

According to a statement on the school district’s website, the tweet from the unidentified account stated, “School shooting tomorrow – who’s ready Middletown?”

Police said they identified the sender within two hours and confronted the teen at home early in the morning.
